A major update on the cause of death of Michelle Trachtenberg has been revealed.
According to a report from Variety on Thursday (February 27), Trachtenberg's cause of death will remain undetermined after her family declined to have an autopsy performed. Families can deny autopsies for religious reasons or if there is no evidence of foul play involved.
The Harriet the Spy actress tragically passed away at 39 years old on Wednesday after she was found "unconscious and unresponsive" in her New York City apartment. She was declared dead at the scene. No criminality was suspected and her death is not being investigated as suspicious.
Though her cause of death will stay unknown, multiple sources have reported that Trachtenberg recently underwent a liver transplant that could have led to complications and resulted in her passing away of natural causes.
The Gossip Girl alum was reported to be "struggling" and "really sick" in the year prior to her sudden death, with a source noting that she was "really down emotionally" as she dealt with "health issues" that took a toll on her physically.
