Figuring out how much to pay the babysitter can be tricky business. You want to pay fairly, but if you start off too high at the beginning of the relationship there’s really no walking it back.
Going out for a "date night" isn't as cheap as it used to be if you have kids. Each hour you're away, you should be dropping $10 to $20 depending on how many kids you have the sitter watching at home.
Each year, babysitting network UrbanSitter releases a survey of average babysitting costs by major city. The national average for 2019 is $16.75 per hour for one child and $19.26 for two, up a bit from last year. But the rates vary widely, from as low as $11.63 for one kid in Las Vegas to as high as $18.75 in San Francisco.
The infographic below has a ton of great stats that will blow your mind. What surprised me the most is that 60% of parents surveyed said they’ll spend over $1,000 on babysitters this year. 40% of parents surveyed will spend over $30,000 a year for their nanny.
