The House Hunters TV show filmed an episode in Bakersfield, and I was biting my tongue almost the entire time! If you didn't see the episode, watch it above, and tell me if you agree with what I'm about to say.
I do have to say that the TV crew did a good job of showing off the city. They got great shots of cool places here, and also some nice homes to catch the eye of anybody looking to buy a home here. What bothered me was the high expectations of the buyers for such a little budget...in California.
Let's give them a little leeway since they are first-time home buyers, so naturally they are going to have unrealistic expectations in what they can get for their budget. 5-bedrooms with a large island kitchen (WITH specific color cabinets, mind you) and a swimming pool, move-in ready with no work to do. All this for a budget of $275,000. Finding all of this would be the deal of the century, in my opinion.
Bakersfield is one of the most affordable cities to buy a home in all of California, and there are a lot of nice houses that affordable here. Kudos to the realtor who found them some houses that are as close as you can get to their wish list on that budget!
I have to admit, by the end of the episode I was smiling for the buyers who found the home they wanted and for well under their budget. They seem like a nice family who are loving life in Bakersfield!
FYI, if you check out the comments, make sure and explain to "balsera04" why they put fireplaces in California homes. Hello!!!! 33 degrees this morning!
