5 Seconds of Summer Share New Song "Easier" & Its Dark Music Video

It's been almost a year since 5 Seconds of Summer dropped their last album, Youngblood, but the band has already returned with new music in the form of their brand new single "Easier" and its accompanying music video.

"Easier" follows 5 Seconds of Summer's collaboration with The Chainsmokers, "Who Do You Love," and is produced by Andrew Watt, Louis Bell and Charlie Puth. In the song, the guys talk about a toxic relationship and sing in the chorus, "Is it easier to stay? Is it easier to go?/ I don't wanna know, oh/ But I know that I'm never, ever gonna change/ And you know that you're always gonna stay the same/ Is it easier to stay? Is it easier to go?/ I don't wanna know, oh/ But I know that I'm never, ever gonna change/ And you know you don't want it any other way."

In a press release, the band's Calum Hood says of the band's new single, "'Easier' is the perfect depiction of the individual artistry within the band and how it comes together to create 5 Seconds of Summer. This record is something we have subconsciously always needed to release. Accompanied by the euphoria and rawness of the video, 'Easier' is the best thing we've released yet."

In the official "Easier" music video, directed by Grant Singer (The Weeknd, Lorde), the guys are in a dark blue-lit cave, surrounded by candles. The visual was actually shot at two historic Southern California sites: the Bronson Caves in Griffith Park and Compton's Angeles Abbey Memorial Park.

Singer says of the inspiration behind the video, "We wanted to bring back the purely cinematic rush of the epic videos I grew up watching in the 90s. Inspired by this idea of rebirth and the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water, we aimed for something dramatic and explosive, like nothing you've seen from the band before."
